C&C Gallery- Ian Dawson and Chris Hawtin - Untitled 1 2015, 3D print and mixed media 20cm x20cm - Copy

This summer, C&C Gallery is hosting an innovative residency programme. For the duration of August the gallery space has been  transformed into a dynamic studio environment to facilitate the production of artworks in response to ideas surrounding the condition of blindness. In order to cast a shadow across this subject a number of artists will engage with a whole repertoire of processes, from casting to laser scanning, this lively experimental environment will seek to ask questions in the broadest sense. The gallery environment has become a blank canvas to draw on, engaging artists and viewers in order to reconsider our perceptions on this subject. The merging of the gallery with the artist’s studio will also challenge the customary boundaries of these spaces, and look to expand the idea of artistic practice, the location of C&C gallery- linked to the popular restaurant and bar, Canvas and Cream adding a further dynamic to this relationship. The invited artists, Ian Dawson, Claude Heath, Louisa Minkin, Nicola Thomas, John Greenwood, Jenny Dunseath, including two from the open call, Michael Colegate and Mhairi Vari, will periodically inhabit the space-each artist leaving traces of their experimentation for the audience to witness, experience, and participate in.

To accompany the residency Ian Dawson will also be hosting as special workshop on new 3D scanning and printing technologies. In this session you will be introduced to a range of scanning processes, including laser and photogrammetric scanning, be introduced to the software for the manipulation of the scanned data. 3D digital files will be produced during this session and can be taken away for 3D printing (please bring your own memory stick!).
